Very Special Love

I saw Sarah Geronimo in Southmall in 2002 when she’s one of the finalists of Search for a Star having a duet with Mark Bautista and it never occurred in my mind that one day she’d be a young superstar as of 2008. Yet i may say nobody can surpass Sharon Cuneta’s charm, formula and impact in tv, recording and film during her teenage years so Sarah appears to be  just a fan in this movie “A Very Special Love” as the love interest of John Lloyd Cruz doing an Aga Muhlach look and projection with a Regine Velasquez pairing appeal as a signature Viva Films genre..

The story is light and dismal  like it’s just written for a day and filmed in 2 weeks if not for a month with  the concise location shoots and scenes with  the shallow plot and illogical progression.  The only edge  is that Star Cinema has the color and grip unlike in GMA Films with unbalanced frames and pale color.

You can also compare this feel-good movie to May Minamahal by Aga & Aiko Melendez with respect to the efforts and skills that Sarah & John Lloyd portrayed in this film if they could ever give justice with this suicidal tandem as if Sarah’s father pointed a gun on Star Cinema & Viva Films to make a major starring role for her or else  they will run to GMA7 being the rival network since Aga & Regine could use the plot with mature storyline and consistent drama where they could showcase their mass appeal and talent once again as also suited to Piolo Pascual & Angel Locsin since they have the meat and blood after the concluded Lobo series.

In my opinion,  this film is a cinematic failure and nuisance. If only Sarah’s exposure and tract are concerned as a multimedia star then she can do better than this w/o appearing in a film thats not yet suited to her look and experience with the  boyish John Lloyd Cruz who can not be a President of a publishing company with only one magazine at hand closing after being number 2 in the market as if it’s just a matter of one-day sale account with his skinny pants matched with old studio blazers that is a total fashion disaster making him look like a penguin as if he was Danny DeVito. He lacked the camera angle which won’t  make him look short unlike Mark Ruffalo in 13 going 30 with Jennifer Garner.  Sarah also did a fashion failure for this film, having that firm and dry wig as if she was Eugene Domingo with hair highlights which made her look old like her mother but I like her charm and mass appeal that cater to ordinary youth and family giving hope that dreams do come true from being a movie fan and singing contest talent into the young superstar that she is by now, despite this experimental movie that may not have a sequel like the major flop Dream Boy by Piolo Pascual & Bea Alonzo.
