Dream Girls
Dream Big..I like the opening salvo of the trio with the heavy belting and dancing that Jennifer Hudson did for the song Move as she occupied the stage swinging and singing like Barney and Dumbo, yet I didn’t watch any recorded performance of The Supremes led by Diana Ross, only her recent duet with Westlife with the song When You tell that You love me.
It’s a big break for Jennifer as Effie White in 2006 after she was named as the 7th finalist in the 3rd season of American Idol in 2004 along with Jasmine Trias & Camile Velasco, both born by Filipino parents, earning her BAFTA ,SAG, Golden Globe & Academy awards for Best Supporting Actress so she remarkably overshadowed Beyonce Knowles who was the most popular in the trio with the yet unknown Anika Noni Rose, but I wonder why she lost her luster too fast pushing her to accept the small role in Sex in the City film adaptation this year. but i could say Keith Robinson who was a virtually unknown actor, upstaged Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy being a true RnB performer as the songwriter in the movie and brother of Jennifer Hudson.
The movie is rare and inspirational but I just find it ear-splitting that Jennifer always sung with that belting style where you would be annoyed plus the perky but loud musical parts of emotional scenes with the song "And Im telling you Im not going" and "Listen" unlike the soft and heartfelt renditions of The Winner Takes it all & SOS in Mammia Mia by Pierce Brosnan & Meryl Streep..yet thats forgivable and obvious having the full and powerhouse vocals of Jennifer and Beyonce, imagine how bad it could be if Fantasia Barrino was Effie White with her glass-breaking and roof-shattering voice, having said Jennifer stole the role from her, but I hope they casted Taye Diggs or Colin Salmon….to cater to the female crowd since Beyonce is voluptuous and sumptuous to the opposite sex.
