The Mummy 3
Thursday, July 31st, 2008If i would describe this movie by a candy and candid description then i could say it’s a majestic and magnificent display of fire, earth and water in sand and snow. Not pompous and fabulous like The Curse of the Golden Flower but it will take you to a journey with Van Helsing and Harry Potter characters.
I was a little disappointed that Russell Wong wasn’t used to evoke machismo although his statuesque appearance was offensive and pungent to the female crowd just like Luke Ford, although he was casted too old for the role as the son of Brendan who looked ugly in this film at 39 with his funny hairstyle taken from the past 2 films yet his face appeared long and haggard here so they should rather made him handsome despite his age . I may say Luke could be Robin or any substantial characters that Paul Walker may get if his agent would land him on meaty roles in superhero, thriller or action movies but I think Shia LaBeouf already got the Lion’s share.haha. after Transformers & Indiana Jones.. I wonder what will happen in Eagle Eye..after all, I just saw his recent photos with his pale and boyish look not the milky and dusky guy in the Mummy 3…
Maria Bello was virtually unknown and unfit for the role as Evelyn since she can’t project the aura and charm that Rachel Weisz portrayed in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns so she just looked 10 years younger than Pilar Pilapil in Lobo as Lady L . It’s a little kinky that Brendan showed his hairy chest for this film, haha, to match his slightly round tummy. but they simply lost the connection as the original couple, there’s no romantic clutch between Maria & Brendan aside from making her a shooter this time..haha. it’s campy but frivolous.
Jet Li & Michelle Yeoh should rather made a film with their own flamboyant, mystical and magical flying and kicking stunts w/o dragging The Mummy franchise so they just helped to kill the series by putting terra cotta soldiers and the cursed Emperor covered by clay and fire w/o any mummified monster but a dragon and a juggernaut..haha.. They can get away with Hero, The Touch , The Myth or The Medallion with Jackie Chan but not with The Mummy which must be territorial and exclusive to Egypt. It’s simply ambitious for the chinese actors to own a film that is not intended for them. It’s not about asian legend after all. That’s why Oded Fehr & Rachel didn’t reprise their roles since this film just showcased Chinese New Year celebration in general with the Yin and Yang concept with Jet Li doing a sequel to his performance as the Monkey King in Forbidden Kingdom.
