The Mummy 3

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

If i would describe this movie by a candy and candid description then i could say it’s a majestic and magnificent display of fire, earth and water in sand and snow. Not pompous and fabulous like The Curse of the Golden Flower but it will take you to a journey  with Van Helsing and Harry Potter characters.

I was a little disappointed that Russell Wong wasn’t used to evoke machismo although his statuesque appearance was offensive and pungent to the female crowd just like Luke Ford, although he was casted too old for the role as the son of  Brendan who  looked ugly in this film at 39 with his funny hairstyle taken from the past 2 films yet his face appeared long and haggard here so they should rather made him handsome despite his age . I may say Luke could be  Robin or any substantial characters that Paul Walker may get if his agent would land him on meaty roles in superhero, thriller or action movies but I think Shia LaBeouf  already got the Lion’s share.haha. after Transformers & Indiana Jones.. I wonder what will happen in Eagle Eye..after all, I just saw his recent photos with his pale and boyish look not the milky and dusky guy in the Mummy 3…

Maria Bello was virtually unknown and unfit for the role as Evelyn since she can’t project the aura and charm that Rachel Weisz  portrayed in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns so she just looked 10 years younger than Pilar Pilapil in Lobo as Lady L . It’s a little kinky that Brendan showed his hairy chest for this film, haha, to match his slightly round tummy. but they simply lost the connection as the original couple, there’s no romantic clutch between Maria & Brendan aside from making her a shooter this time..haha. it’s campy but frivolous.

Jet Li & Michelle Yeoh should rather made a film with their own flamboyant, mystical and magical  flying and kicking stunts w/o dragging The Mummy franchise so they just helped to kill the series by putting terra cotta soldiers and the cursed Emperor covered by clay and fire w/o any mummified monster but a dragon and a juggernaut..haha.. They can get away with  Hero,  The Touch , The Myth or The Medallion with Jackie Chan but not with The Mummy which must  be territorial and exclusive to Egypt. It’s simply ambitious for the chinese actors to own a film that is not intended for them. It’s not about asian legend after all. That’s why Oded Fehr & Rachel didn’t reprise their roles since this film just showcased Chinese New Year celebration in general with the Yin and Yang concept with Jet Li doing a sequel to his performance as the Monkey King in Forbidden Kingdom.

A Little Knowedge is a Dangerous Thing..

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

So I’ve been told..I didn’t  even know who said this phrase until I learned  it was first used by Alexander Pope..who was regarded as the greatest English poet in 18th century so I have no idea who was he. or I forgot if I ever came across his profile and literary works in college.

I have nothing in compare to any poet or playwright in history since it’s not medieval or renaissance era anymore..haha, kidding, not even close to illustrious members of Philippine American Writers and Artists. and Im not aware who are they since I have no plan or ambition to compete with them or any genius in particular just like Poison Ivy who said she’s never good in competition so I rather focus on how to be the Other Boleyn girl not as the woman behind Mona Lisa portrait..haha. since I may serve for both cerebral and carnal needs of men but I rather loiter and linger like a chameleon. if Im not part of the corporate jungle.

I can not argue with that saying since that must be true. sometimes we’re stubborn and stupid to stand on a pedestal, podium or court believing what we do or say is right , valid and rational. in my case, I only stand  for my opinion, perception,  knowledge and research  so if they are erroneous and vicious, humility is a virtue but since to err is to human, I will not concede just like a lawyer defending a libelous plaintiff. although I know that alibi is not honored in court..haha.

I just like to talk and laugh..to enjoy and savor life according to my own understanding and entertainment coz I know I will never discern nor discover things of joy and wonder but if I can start it by myself then maybe it could be the simplest source of happiness and laughter I may ever contribute to myself and others. While I like to be analytical and judicial, i don’t have to be empirical and crucial unless I’m the President of America or Phil. Stock Exchange. haha. I  like to be a firefly or a nightingale who can offer wonders by being simple and amiable.

But at times Im ballistic and agnostic because Im dense and cruel. coz It’s easy to say good things and traits but life is unfair, there is good and evil in this world to bring chaos and peace at the same time. but yes, my knowledge is limited coz I’m busy and frantic. I have no time to read and understand books and almanacs that great authors wrote and published. though I wish to have a big library in a mansion.

Superman II

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I revisited Superman II which  I saw in the province by Betamax during elementary days, so I’d be able to see how gorgeous and sculpted was Christopher Reeve when he flew in blue cape and red underwear with Margot Kidder who resembled Maritoni Fernandez being lanky and anorexic, speaking  with fragile crystal accent.

So Terrence Stamp was General Zod who floated in the sky with Ursa and Non then flew like they were suspended on air w/o parachute. I think they didn’t fly in sophisticated manner lacking advanced harness and modern CGI softwares that Brandon Routh had in Superman Returns.

I just saw that it’s illogical to return the tower of the Empire State Building to cage Non since the steel posts weren’t enclosed (by wrapping steel on it), engraved (by his strong force)or welded (by his energy  beams) on the base  so that should fall by earthquake caused by their strong and stormy battle. I also noticed that  Superman’s heat vision should not pass through his eye-glasses w/o breaking it.

Gene Hackman’s dialogs were funny and ridiculous as if He was Bill Murray years later after Superman II as he frequently mentioned his being Lex Luthor to dissuade the three alien criminals from killing him.

I can’t believe this film earned as much as 130M $ worldwide. Very impressive for a low-budget flick with slight and slow performance  by Laurence Fishburne with his cold sleepy voice as if he spoke from a catacomb and  awkward punching scene as if he wasn’t coached enough how to execute that small scene with blood-stained Jim Sturgess who cried like a little boy as if he’s mimicking Tobey Maguire by his slow and shy american accent.

Kevin Spacey was convincing and aggressive for this boring film since he really acted like he’s going to eat the whole class alive with his natural portrayal. But I admit this was  only the second time that I saw his films after Superman Returns as Lex Luthor though I read he’s acting like an alien for his out-of-this-world impact on-screen.

This was so boring that I exclaimed this was the most entertaining film I ever saw.haha. funny that we watched this twice..hoping the film has best to offer in the beginning since we entered the cinema halfway before it ended.

I wonder why Kate Bosworth was casted as a college student while she looked old like Rachel Bilson in Jumper, after she did Lois Lane in Superman Returns..maybe Kevin dragged her for this film. why not bring Parker Posey instead..haha.. too old for the role.

The asian girl named Kianna who looked like Monique Wilson , was funny and shameless to show her dark right underarm with her american accent which sounded thicker and nastier than her appearance along with this spiked Korean-Chinese guy who stole hotel small fixtures including a painting.

Chinese heritage of gambling and womanizing were depicted in this movie since from Chinatown to Las Vegas, Chinese men and women were seated to appear gambling in casino and hidden gambling house and watching girls dancing on pole tables..

In short, this film was shallow ,irrational, slow and weak to amaze and entice me to gamble than shop in Gucci & LV stores in Las Vegas but I gave credit to Ben’s good friends who appeared as american and caucasian guys who sucked with girls being nerds and geeks but humble and amiable.

Sex & the City

Friday, July 25th, 2008

I said I would never watch this movie of the aged, has been and unknown hollywood tv actors who slightly appeared in any film distributed worldwide though I read somewhere that Sarah is the wife of Inspector gadget star (Matthew Broderick) so I knew her by chance.  I didn’t watch any episode just like Desperate Housewives with much popular Teri Hatcher (who starred as   Lois Lane in Superman (TV) & Paris Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies) & Eva Longoria (who I just knew in  magazines being the exclusive date turned wife of that black NBA player).

We watched this movie 15 minutes after its last full show schedule so we sat and saw Carrie(Sarah Jessica Parker)  was having a pictorial while wearing a wedding gown which I assumed for their wedding with Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) watching.

They took the movie having lunches in apartments turned restaurants like they only live next door with a meager performance by Jennifer Hudson who surprised me that she got this small role while she’s more phenomenal than Sarah having won numerous awards by Dream Girls.

The characters while focusing on Carrie had their highlights and antics by May-December affair (Kim Cattrall) , broken marriage (Cynthia Nixon) and menopausal childbirth (Kristin Davies) so it’s a hilarious movie with different flavors..although I could only look beyond this new  metrosexual actor named Jason Lewis who appeared frail and reluctant for the role yet I learned he took it straight from the TV episodes having that soft  voice which I liked to be  thick and husky for a male gigolo who could be latino or indian-arab guy like Chris Evans and Victor Webster, maybe that’s a desperate element after casting Jesse Metcalfe..haha..the character who seduced Samantha (Kim) was funny and annoying, not sexy and appealing.

Sarah was light and dramatic for the role while Cynthia , Kim and Kristin were funny and hilarious although I thought they could offer more than just conventional and convenient episode about Carrie’s wedding while they were just about to move to a bigger apartment after being together for 10 years w/o a child as if she can still bear offspring much later so the preparation and outcome were nasty and extravagant.

Desire…

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

I wish the subject is like rain to pour from my mind to arouse friends and strangers If they would take the time to know if this is about a car named desire or just any malicious thing that I will talk about as if I have the liberty and authority to speak in general but only by experience and perception.

Not that I imply I’m a sex symbol like Jenna Jameson or Asia Agcaoili who replaced each other in a FHM column, but I like to liberate myself since Im not afraid to tickle  fancy and desire for sexual healing and awakening even though  I didn’t have any traumatic experience of pedophilia , incest or sadism..only rough sex perhaps..haha… or the most common is rural practice of sex without foreplay where only the husband or  partner gets satisfied..as I belong to the modern scale by merit and preference.

I think it’s a dangerous topic after all so I have to tame myself along the norm since I don’t like to tackle topics that may put me in bad light if not in total sexual explosion..haha. if I have time tonight and someone won’t cringe and object that this is an exploiting and shameful act.

Resident Evil

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

I finished watching the Resident Evil trilogy with a future sequel about Degeneration. Now I can write about this whole package with bats, lickers, dogs, and zombies aside from Alice & Nemesis.

So Mila Jovovich was Leeloo in The Fifth Element & Violet in UltraViolet, (I didn’t watch Zoolander & Joan of Arc when they were shown) thats why she’s used to mute acting..haha. since she only shifted from alien to amnesiac protagonist with her icy accent and ghastly appearance.  I wonder whats wrong with Aeon Flux starring Charlize Theron while she’s more dramatic and articulate. they were both reluctant though while Kate Beckinsale & Jennifer Garner were ruthless and quick.

And T-virus started the chaos when James Purefoy
as Spence Parks threw the vial to disperse total annihilation of human race for unknown reason coz I can’t understand his logic and purpose when he did that but only to revive a Thriller video (Michael Jackson) among the living and the dead.

I just saw that Resident Evil movies casted  English actors with gorgeous latino and black actors which I forgot the names aside from  Thomas Kretschmann(Wanted & Blade II) & Oded Fehr (The Mummy) who both exuded beefy and tasty sex appeals  like  hotdog and cheese although Oded impressed his character by that natural  Arab accent….The trilogy  was filmed in Ontario, Canada, which also starred Colin Salmon as One and Matthew G. Taylor as Nemesis who both stand 6′3"-6′4" respectively.

Forget
about the rude remarks. Always remember the compliments you received. You mean the world to someone. You are

Aeon Flux…

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I wonder what made this film a major flop according to critics for barely topping the gross charts so I watched it again yet I also acknowledged its failure as I took this movie against Charlize Theron when I watched it then. According to figures, it earned 25M(USD) compared to 111M(USD) that Underworld garnered so it was really lowly received worldwide despite it’s edgy and clever setting and plot than  Underworld & Equilibrium with dark and gray backgrounds.

Marton Csokas (Trevor Godchild) was hotter than the sun in this film as if it even appeared except the dirigible  that contained the DNA and history of the clones in Bregna set to find the cure to industrial disease that stops reproduction so the torture of human cloning will not surface again. He’s a Russel Crowe dead-ringer if not more appealing than Gerard Butler ,Antonio Banderas and Vin Diesel(I just saw Babylon A.D trailer with his hairy chest so I thought he’s not that ugly after all..haha). He was in Lord of the Rings Trilogy as Celeborn  thats why he looks familiar. While Johnny Lee Miller as Oren Godchild was eye-candy but soft and poor in acting.

I was amused when Aeon Flux did a Natalie (Cameron Diaz in Charlie’s Angels) stunt when she wore that white jumpsuit to disable the surveillance system in Bregna so they can possibly infiltrate w/o being detected. so I thought  only the smile of Cameron made it different giving me that notion that she might be awesome and articulate but weak and clumsy to be an assassin..haha.

Maybe Charlize lacked the grip and strength to sustain her tumbling ,kicking and shooting skills so she actually bored the audience since it failed to provoke a sequel due to poor reception. I noticed her dead glances and idle walks unlike  Jennifer Garner in Elektra , Kate Beckinsale in Underworld and Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft so Aeon Flux appeared  innocent as a fighter yet she was supposed to be the toughest. No angst and retribution so she attacked the role as if  she did a light drama with her fashionable outfit and hairstyle.. haha. There was no weight and mark but only that love-story that is good for romantic movies. If they made love passionately as if they were doing Original Sin & Killing me Softly then maybe this movie would make her sinful and alluring..haha..she looked like a reluctant character actress. Good she’s not that bad like Halle Berry in Catwoman & X-Men.

But this movie was far better than Hancock although they made this movie safe and sweet for explosions and stunts  making it dull , floating and breakable while it must be heavy , torrential and phenomenal.

Dracula 2000

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I reran this film as if have so much time to spare for  old movies like Dracula 2000 starring   Christopher Plummer (I only saw him in Lake House as Keanu Reeves’ father since I’m not a fan of old men except X-Men / LOTR actors like Ian McKellen & Patrick Stewart which I only watched for the effects and Hugh Jackman, meaning I only watch new and popular films ..haha), Johnny Lee Miller who I’ve found out was Angelina Jolie’s former husband & Gerard Butler as Dracula/Judas Iscariot, his first movie that I ever saw few years ago  with cameo appearance by Shane West who has that big  nose like Oliver James . It  killed a boring hour of my life hoping I would be recharged and reincarnated by blood , macabre, strength, beauty and immortality that Vampire movies offer.

I recalled this movie was pale and boring like Gerard’s complexion and "mannequin" acting. He lacked the sex appeal that Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas possessed in Interview of a Vampire, although I liked his role in mouth-watering "300" and PS I love You ..Stuart Townsend was effective but he’s just eye-candy and sexy when he did Lestat in Queen of the Damned and Dorian Gray in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. He’s a little ugly for a vampire..haha..unlike Stephen Dorf in Blade I ( I wished he added muscle to that hairy chest..he’s hot in "Everytime" MV of Britney Spears)..

Jennifer Esposito, Jeri Ryan and Vitamin C suited the role perfectly to complement the Two black actors who also acted as human turned vampires.. although I think it’s  different that they wore white gowns for Mardi Gras as if they disguised as angels while they were vampires since Im used to seeing Selene(Kate Beckinsale) in Underworld , Akasha( late Aaliyah) in Queen of the Damned) and Mina Harker(Peta Wilson who I mistook as Rita Wilson-Tom Hanks’ wife ) in League of  Extraordinary Gentlemen..wearing black ensembles in addition to Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Sarah Michelle Prinze)….

Johnny Lee Miller could be mistaken as Chris O’Donnell as Robin in Batman and Robin but not as James Bond  coz he didn’t fit the bill even he was considered to replace Pierce Brosnan..too young..too pretty for the role.. so it went to his fellow British actor Daniel Craig who gave James Bond that dirty, painful and ugly portrayal..haha , maybe he’s effective in Aeon Flux if I watch it again later..haha. I dont like to watch "The Flying Scotsman" coz I think it’s boring like Jerry Maguire and A Beautiful Mind. He’s handsome but not  hot as Scott Speedman (unless if I saw him naked in Dracula like Gerard…)

I hope the producers focused on effects, story and acting than just having a costly air-transport of the coffin (if that’s not shot in studio) and plane crash on the lake after those expensive  museum location shoots to literally transfer the movie from London to New Orleans for the Mardi Gras, red curtains effect and foggy fight scenes in a cemetery. I wonder how could it be possible that  airport officials didn’t detect the weapons that Van Helsing (Chistopher Plummer) brought to kill Dracula which were deadly  and visible to scanners. I also noticed that the actor who  played as a priest wasn’t credited.
